Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cognitive behavior therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on thoughts and behaviors that keep patterns going in our lives. By changing these thoughts and behaviors in a structured way, we can teach our brain and body new ways of being and responding. Many people find that as these new patterns in their brain become stronger, their lives and moods become more manageable.

  • Cognitive behavior therapy is goal-focused, and the aim is to help reduce your distress quickly by focusing on practical skills that will teach your brain to function differently. Sessions are usually more structured than you might find in talk therapy, and take-home activities are common in between sessions. There is an emphasis on practicing the skills outside of our session, and we will work together to support you in the process.

  • Yes, I am in-network with Aetna, and some Optum and United Healthcare insurance networks. Use Alma to check your insurance coverage with me.

  • You may be able to get reimbursement from your insurance company using your out-of-network benefits. I can provide you with a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance, or submit claims on your behalf through Thrizer. Thrizer will communicate with your insurance company for you, and you may be able to just pay your coinsurance amount upfront instead of my full fee.

Please also feel free to check out this resource for more information on obtaining out-of-network reimbursement.

  • To find out what your insurance may cover, contact your insurance and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage. If you need to provide a “CPT code” or a “service code” you can provide the following codes:

    • Intake - CPT 90791

    • Individual Therapy (45 Minutes) - CPT 90834

    • Individual Therapy (60 minutes) - CPT 90837

You may also want to mention the type of license that I have to ensure services with my type of credential are covered. I have an LCSW.

Other things you may want to ask about are:

    • What your deductible is

    • What your co-insurance payment will be

    • How many visits you get per year

    • If you need authorization for your visits

    • Details on how to submit a superbill

Please reach out to me if you would like more guidance on how to figure out what your insurance will cover.

  • Health insurance can be helpful in being able to pay for appointments, but there are also some unfortunate drawbacks. Health insurance companies require a diagnosis, which will remain permanently on your health record. Some health insurance companies will limit your number of sessions they allow for you to complete, or will dictate the types of sessions I can hold with you. Health insurance companies may also conduct audits of the services you receive from me, and therefore have access to your diagnoses and health information. On my end, the time I spend coordinating with insurance is time I would rather spend treatment planning for you, researching new techniques to help you, and developing my skillsets to be the best therapist I can be for you!

If you prefer not to use your health insurance in order to have more confidentiality and control over your treatment, please let me know.

  • My fee for sessions is $150 per 50 minute session. My intake fee is $200 for a 60 minute session.

  • Many of my clients see me every other week for therapy, whether due to schedules, finances, or time constraints. I recommend seeing me weekly for the first month so we can get to know each other and I can get a strong assessment, and then we can talk about meeting every other week, and make sure it’s a good fit for your symptoms and therapy goals. I want to make therapy as workable as possible for you!

  • I do not have available sliding fee slots at this time. Please see my Low Cost Therapy And Support page for resources on lower fee supports and therapy providers.

  • To cancel a scheduled therapy session, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice in advance of your session is required. If prior and timely notification is not given, you will be charged a cancellation fee.

  • I only work with adults over age 18 at this time.

  • My clients typically find me to be compassionate, accepting, organized, and to offer helpful skills. I’m here to find out what will work for you as we work together. It's important to me to stay open to any feedback and questions you have, and to focus on setting and reaching goals in a way that works for you. I want my sessions to fit what you need!

  • I first started working in therapy in 2016 with children with autism. I loved the therapy process so much that I then got my master’s degree in social work. I received my degree from New York University in 2020, and went on receive more specialized training in DBT and CBT from Behavioral Tech, The Beck Institute, and the Feeling Good Institute. I worked in medical centers and counseling centers as a therapist and clinical supervisor before starting my private practice. I like staying up-to-date with new therapy developments, and I continue my ongoing training and consultation so that I can offer the highest standard of care possible.

  • Science has shown that the brain can change and learn new ways of operating, and that this can happen more quickly through structured therapy. I think this is exciting! I want the people I work with to feel better sooner, without needing to spend years of their time and money in therapy with me. I also like that CBT often gives relief long-term, because the brain has learned a new way of being.

  • I love being outdoors, especially during the summer months! Apart from spending time outside, I enjoy playing piano and checking out thrift stores.

  • Please reach out to me to schedule a free consultation, where you can share more about what’s going on for you and we can see how I can help. You can schedule yourself in my online scheduler, or reach out through phone or email/contact form.
